Kara’s Cupcakes

People are insane for calling this place better than Sprinkles. Even the cupcakes I screw up at home are better than the ones found in this place. It’s bewildering how popular it is still. Saturday, February 4, 2012.

Kara’s cupcakes, found inside Santana Row. I took this picture thinking the place was both that green and pink section, but it was just that pink section.

An extremely small shop. It was annoying trying to fit inside there with the other people. Especially with people going in and out, it was just very inconvenient.

First thoughts: this place is a copycat of Sprinkles. Everything about it looked just like Sprinkles. From the logo to the menu, it all looked the same. Get original.

I got the fleur de sol. Such a horrible cupcake! The frosting was HARD. Yes, HARD. What kind of frosting is this? The cake was all crumbly and fell apart on the first bite, and the salt on top was way too salty. The frosting to cake ratio was just all off. Frosting should definitely not be thicker than the cake itself. Overall the salt was overpowering and it felt like I was just intaking a teaspoon full of salt. Disgusting.

My sister got the red velvet. The upside down heart in this photo is fitting because there is no love for this cupcake at all. The whole cupcake was just way too sweet and everything just tasted artificial about it.

So Tiffany and Amy went to the nearby fish and chips place to buy some french fries and fried pickles to wash the over sweetening flavors down.

They actually gave me what they couldn’t finish, remarking that I was a “starving college student.” I’m never really starving, but I definitely love people offering me food! Thank you so much!

So what have we learned? Kara’s Cupcakes should be avoided. Not worth the time, money, and unhealthiness. Next place I want to try though, is Hannah’s Cupcakes. Four and a half stars and a recommendation by a friend, so it definitely can’t go wrong! Did I just jinx myself? I hope I didn’t.
