Obon Festival

Sunday, August 5, 2012. Went to a traditional Japanese festival filled with performances, food, and games!
Had an early dinner at a place called Rice Thai Cuisine (yelp) in Palo Alto, CA.
4:37PM

Curry, Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai
First thoughts when the food came out: great presentation! I always love it when the plating is done right and everything is visually appealing. I got the pad thai, and although it wasn’t the best pad thai I’ve ever tasted I still enjoyed it thoroughly. Lots of noodles and I actually liked the peanuts and bean sprouts on the side so I could add it in as I pleased. The beef was overcooked, but all I really cared about were the noodles anyways. $10 for this. The plating made it worth it in my opinion.
5:33PM

Taiko Performance
I was very amazed by how everyone was on beat and kept a constant rhythm.
6:21PM

Games and decorations

Objective: throw the ping pong ball into the fish bowl

Contestants

Fish as prizes

Eating area
Although the food looked delicious, I was still full from our early dinner. All the food was cheaply priced though! Not the kind of overpriced food you’d find at an amusement park or alike. Items were around $3-$5.
Ended the day at the festival by watching some traditional dances.
