First time going to Sweet Tomatoes, a buffet that serves soup, salad, and pasta. Supposedly, it is a buffet on the healthier side, although I don’t think buffets in general are that healthy at all since you can just eat however much you want. Went here with my sister since I had a coupon for $8 per person.
My sister had come here before and she told me it was pretty much like a dining common. You get your food and you can sit wherever you want. The setup was a little strange though. Walking in, the salad bar was first. We basically made our way down the salad bar and at the end of it was the cashier. Each of us got water since drinks were an extra $2. I got a full plate of salad and about a half plate of pasta salad before reaching the cashier.
The salad was nice and fresh. The downside was just that after eating my plate of salad, I was almost full already! I can’t be full, I haven’t even started on the soups, hot pasta, or bread yet! And not to count dessert! They had a lot of different kind of soups: black bean chili, french onion, clam chowder, lemon chicken, and some other two I forgot.
There’s a photo of the inside. There were only two hot pastas to my despise. And they weren’t even that great. Mac and cheese and greek pasta. The mac and cheese was basically like your usual out-of-the-box kraft mac and cheese. Nothing special there.
The clam chowder was amazing though. Absolutely delicious. The bread was great too. It was like a flat bread pizza except the bread was much more tasteful. The corn bread muffin was decent, it was slightly a little more dry and fluffy than I would have liked it.
Tried three other soups. From top left to bottom right: Lemon Chicken Orzo, French Onion, Black Bean Chili, and Focaccia bread.
-Lemon Chicken: Tasted a bit too lemon-y for my liking. It kind of reminded me of the lemon bars I had last night, except in a soup.
-French Onion: Way too salty. But since I had a sore throat, and salty water is supposed to help it out, I drank it all anyways. It actually did help my sore throat, but other than that, it was still too much on the salty side.
-Black Bean Chili: Pretty much just like your normal chili, except with no meat. You could have added sour cream, cheese and other condiments but I overlooked it so I didn’t get any.
I really liked the blueberry muffin. It was crispy on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. I loved it!
Dessert was soft-serve chocolate ice cream, peanuts, toasted coconut flakes, granola, and chocolate syrup. A great way to finish my meal. I was definitely more than full before eating this, but I just had to.
I actually went ahead and took a screenshot of the menu from their website. So here’s basically what I had a selection from during my visit here.
